Frederick Douglass Executive Board

James D. Jones is a native of Benton Harbor, MI and has lived in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area since 2013. Mr. Jones has been the Director of Bands and Orchestra for Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, MD since 2013. He previously served as Director of Bands for his alma mater, Benton Harbor High School, in Benton Harbor, MI where he led the band to numerous awards and recognitions, as well as High Point High School, in Beltsville, MD. He has previously opened for and played with several recording artists such as John P. Kee, Brian McKnight, Yolanda Adams, Marcus Robinson, Herb Smith, Dave Carlock, and Wycliffe Gordon as a saxophonist and vocalist. Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL and a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership (K-12 Principal) at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. He is currently working towards a Masters of Music Education at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.
